I remember the Methodist church at Great Tattenhams being built and am sad to see it has gone. Our family attended there on Sundays, walking from our home in Ferndale Road. My sister was married there.

I too remember it being built. I didn't remember the year as 1953 as stated, but certainly was about then. It was quite plush inside as the photograph shows.
The land there before it was built was chalk downland with some scrubby Hawthorn.
I also remember the general area before a great many of the houses were built, and can still remember the shock of nearly treading on a leverett (baby hare) on the land where Shawley Crescent now is. I understood from my elders that not all war time bombs exploded before tunnelling their way into the chalk, and not all were found and one of those is in the Chapel Way area.
