Banstead Hall gymnasiumThe gymnasium in Banstead Hall taken from the school brochure of the 1930s. The year attributed to the photograph is an estimate.

I went into this gymnasium in 1979 when Banstead Hall was derelict. The gym and the swimming pool were covered in pigeon droppings, and there was a very moth eaten pommel horse just like the one in the photo. Wonder if it was the same one.

Reminiscent of the old First School Canteen. Windows are very familiar.

I wonder what became of all the memorial plaques to ex Banstead Hall Boys killed in the world wars that were on the Chapel wall, after they demolished the building. Does anyone know?
Reply from LNW, Hi Derek, having written a BHRG book about the men on the Banstead War Memorial (picture #186), I would be very interested to know the answer to your question. Even a list of names would be a start. Did the school produce any quarterly magazines etc that might give us a clue? If anyone knows of any, do please respond. You might be interested to know that BHRG managed to recover a memorial plaque that used to hang in the Chapel at Beechholme. It is currently being restored.

Sorry mate I can only remember seeing them, and there were quite a lot saying name rank and place where they were killed in the 2 wars. As I remember there were a lot of officers - as for names I cant remember, as it was 1958 when I was there. Where did all the records go?

The lists of those soldiers are with the Banstead historical people, they sent me a list of their names, but the oak pannels along with the stained glass from the chaple are lost, somewhere there exists a photgraph of the chapel I was watching it being taken.
