HELP! I have received a BLAST FROM THE PAST!!!?? A Lady living near Brisbane Q.L. Ausy Land, is looking for pictures of the prefabs in Nork in Hillside, she is compiling a life's history, on D.V.D. to pass on to her descendants.
Has anyone got a shot of those iconic buildings!
All she has at present are pictures taken in the back-garden & none of the front elevation. Someone somewhere must have a street view.

Note from LNW: We believe that the prefabs replaced Nissen huts during 1946.

Clive, or any other reader, I would love to see a photo of the prefabs in Hillside Close. Such fond memories of growing up there.

These houses were built by Downs Estate. I worked on them in the 50's and they were part of the whole estate.

No photos of the Hillside Close prefabs I'm afraid but I lived close by on the corner of Hillside and Buckles Way (house just visible in the photo I think) from birth in 1955 until 1977. I'm pretty sure this photo was taken circa 1960 or even later since it shows (set slightly back behind trees on in the right middle distance), and just below the obscured entrance to Hillside Close, the six "police" houses that weren't erected until then. I remember well helping the milkman (Fred Harding) with his milk deliveries around the Close and the nearest phone box for us was also at the top. I'm pretty sure the prefabs were still there until the late 1960's or early 1970's?

Note from LNW: BHRG member James Crouch tells me that aerial photos from 1971 show the prefabs still there.

On the memories and topics Tadworth Facebook site there is a photo of 39 Hillside Close Nork Banstead 1950, showing the front view of a few prefabs and children. I had the identical wooden push along horse, Dobbin.
On our website we have a few photos of Hillside Close but only one showing a front view of a property. Numbers 666 and 678.
They were still there in the late 60s as I had friends living in them.
My Grandmother lived in one in Woodmansterne I still remember it in great detail.
