Police Stations in Banstead High Street

The original Police Station was known as Buff House station and can be seen on the left of the photo. Behind it was Buff House. In 1906 a new station was built across the road and still stands there today (2010).

After the Police vacated it, the Police station was used by the Fire Brigade as a temporary base. The building is still there but is closed to the public. (updated 2020)

Comments:
As a matter of passing interest, ES Willard (Edward Smith Willard, 1853-1915) was a noted stage actor who was successful both in England and the United States, where he toured frequently. For many years he lived in Buff House – which, in the 1909 Electoral Register, is listed as “Corner of High street and Avenue road”.

A distant relative of mine lived at the Police Station according to the 1911 Census with his wife. PC George Carr.
