On the LHS stands one of the lodge houses by the entrance gate into the former 30 acre Garratts Hall estate.
Beyond here Garratts Lane looks devoid of today's houses.

This lodge is one of their pair which still survives today. The second is approximarely 200 yards further up the lane, by Shrubland Road.

Garratts Hall was a large country house, formerly owned by the local Lambert family 1534 – 1744, then again 1857 – 1925.
The property included Little Garratts, lodges, gardens and parkland.

Between 1902 – 1930 Garratts Hall was let and became a Girls Boarding School run by Mrs Mary Louisa Davies. One former pupil was Megan Lloyd George, daughter of the Liberal Prime Minster David Lloyd George, who lived nearby at Walton On The Hill.

Garratts Hall was demolished in the 1930s following the death of Mrs Davies, and the new roads, Colcokes Road, Monks Road and Garrard Road laid down for housing, followed a few decades later by Great Ellshams, off Holly Lane.
