Banstead Village

I am fairly certain that Eastmans was a dry cleaning shop. I will try to find more. Others have mentioned the Jewelers - I found B.A.Side Jewelers 34 High Street Banstead listed in 1957.

Hello David have just been talking to a friend of my Mum's and she also remembers it being a dry cleaning shop.

Thank you Christine. A couple more directory entries I may have missed;- Lillian Pearce Woollen Goods, 53 High Street from about 1952 until about 1963. Before this listed as 9 Buff Parade, High Street, from 1938 through WW2 until about 1945. The Wilmot Cafe 49 High Street in 1955. F C Collinson Hairdresser 59 High Street in 1954. Finally C Valdor Confectioners, 39 High Street from 1958 until 1970's. More to follow I hope.

David, you are correct in saying that F C Collinson was No.59 which was previously 12 Buff Parade.
The question is why is Buff Parade opposite the church and not between Harbourfield Road and Buff Ave? Even our own history book describes for example The British Restaurant and later the library at Buff Parade but this seems to be wrong. We are now trying to work out where the name came from for the Parade and Buff House.

The first Buff Parade comprised 5 shops - these are now 169 High Street to the lawyers on the corner at 175 High Street.
The 'new' Buff Parade started at 1 and this is now 37 High Street,
