The Gardner family at The Grange

Hello again.
I found this Gardner family picture amongst my mother's things; she was a Gardner and is in the photograph as a 17 year-old sitting
on the grass in the white dress. I am related to everybody in the picture, a Gardner family group taken at The Grange in 1947. It shows part of the rear terrace, including the 'roly-poly' hill (childhood memory). All four of the Gardner sisters are there, plus two of their brothers and assorted wives and children etc.

Message for Derrick Gardner. I've traced you Derrick through some other info I have - your grandfather wasn't at this gathering.

My uncle Jack isn't there either, my grandfather and Uncle Jack were in Canada by then. I do think I recognize my Auntie May and Lil and Wynn. Do you know the names of the others?

Hi Derrick
Jack is there, he is 3rd from right, back row, with the pipe.
I think this was a picture taken just before Jack and family returned to Canada permanently after WW2. In a letter from Jack's daughter Eva from 1981 she says they were in the UK 1927-1947 & Jack worked for the Ministry of Works in WW2.
As for all the names:
Back Row L-R
Len Bailey, May G, Gertie G, Dick(Richard)G, Amy G, Jack G, Rita G, Mary G.
Middle Row L-R
Ray G, Wynn G,
Front row seated on ground L-R
Eva G, Maisie G, Valerie (small child) Gladys Bailey, Daphne G, Lillian G, Stanley G,
To explain who is who.....
Jack & Mary's daughters are Eva, Maisie & Rita and Valerie is Eva's daughter
Dick (widower) His sons are Ray and Stanley and daughters are Gladys and Daphne.
Len is Gladys' husband and Amy is Ray's wife.
As you see all four Gardner sisters (The aunties as we knew them) are there too.
Regards
Richard

Thanks! after I looked at the picture again, I noticed Uncle Jack was actually there.I have met his daughters a couple of times. My mum and uncle Ted were always in contact with them. My mum used to always visit Ray and Amy when she would visit England. She also visited the aunts when they were alive. It was nice she was able to she was able to stay in contact with them, as my Dad (Reg), passed away at a young age.
