WH Spearing, Picquets Way headmaster

From an old Picquets Way scrapbook: this is WH Spearing, headmaster of Banstead County Secondary Boys’ School for 20 years from the mid-1940s. In the 1950s he was also Treasurer of the Surrey County Teachers’ Association and was one of only three Life Members. In addition he was a member and Past President of Banstead Rotary Club. Born in 1900, he lived in Tadorne Road, Tadworth, and died in 1972.

The view of the school, looking northwards towards The Drive, is from the end of the extensive garden and was taken in the late 1950s.

Oh and by the way, Bill Spearing's nickname among the boys at Picquets Way was 'Chewy', for obvious (and quite humorous) reasons!
