Flying bomb in Nork Way

This is all that remained of 53 Nork Way after it was hit by a flying bomb on 3 July 1944. No 51 was also badly damaged and had to be demolished.

Mr and Mrs and Mrs Cory who lived at No. 53 with their son Mark, were in the house and just managed to scramble into their Morrison table shelter, an action which undoubtedly saved their lives. The baker attending the ovens at The Cornish Bakery was killed.

The Nork shopping parade as far as Hookhams the grocers, had to be rebuilt.

The full story is one of many recorded in BHRG publication Memories of Wartime Banstead District. Copies can be purchased from the BHRG sales site.(https://bansteadhistorysales.square.site)
