You are not the only one, I can remember a girl in my class (I won’t name her) doing the same in the hall at lunch time. It put us all off our dinner, the worse thing was she put her soiled hanky on the hot radiator, plenty of sawdust was rushed in and we were all expected to carry on eating. I thought I was the only one who remembered things like that.

:->> Ew! Dinners were generally pretty bad at the best of times.
Seriously - every few days, a new pile of sawdust would appear somewhere. My own kids' lower school did not have nearly as many incidents so it must have been just us. Either that or people just keep their kids home at the first sing of trouble.
Back then, you had to be practically bedridden to get a day off school.
I'm going to add a comment on the canteen photo for that later...

Had to sit here one lunchtime, early 70s, with a bucket, because I felt sick (mostly due to some other kid chucking up near me outside - so many piles of sawdust - what was wrong with us all :)
I was in there with another kid who got a broadbean skin, or similar, stuck in his throat from lunch, and the dinner lady or secretary was feeding him salt water in an effort to make him chuck up and clear it.
Why do I remember stuff like this!!! :->>>
