War Memorial and The Woolpack, Banstead

This postcard, postmarked 28th March 1950, is a pencil sketch reproduction of the War Memorial and The Woolpack in Banstead. The publisher was R.A. (Postcards) Ltd of London EC4, which I believe was Regal Art Publishing.

On the reverse, the writer explains, ‘This is the Woolpack pub before it was bombed. It’s the one Daddy always had to meet Norman at!!’ The postcard is sent from Eastcroft, Woodmansterne Lane – then a private house, now a nursing home.

Comments:
I find that sketch slightly puzzling as there isn't any building on the left hand side. This was the bomb site that I recall but I'm not old enough to remember the actual bombing only the site left after clearance.

Reply from LNW: there may be a bit of artistic licence on the left hand side as there is no forge, which there should be if this was prior to the V-1, and I have no other cards that show any kind of shrubbery opposite The Woolpack.
