Bertie on the left, Mr Waterman on the right. The little boy's name is unknown; he had won a competition to be a butcher for a day.
Mr Bettles often ran competitions for children.

Albert William Bettles was born in Wandsworth in 1901.
His father was also a butcher.
He lived in Greenhayes Avenue with his wife and two daughters and at Four Corners Sandersfield Gardens Banstead.
In the war he served with the Banstead Home Guard.
His shop was at 23 High Street Banstead.
Albert died in 1969.
