Where or which school?

Reply from LNW : Hello Michael, I believe that David is interested in all aspects of old swimming pools in any school and is particulary after photos of completed old pools as in this image, but also photos taken during construction.

My question was meant to be "has anyone an idea which Banstead school this is?"

Reply from LNW; This was Banstead Hall we believe. There were other swimming pools at Rose Hill School in Park Road, Aberdour, the school in Shawley Way and also Greenacre. One of our members in the Banstead History research Group helped dig the pool at the current Banstead Junior School and another helped with the construction of the pool at Aberdour. The shuttering started to come away during the building of this last pool and I hope to have more on this soon.

My memory is very sketchy but I do remember learning to swim in the pool at Banstead Junior school. I was there for 4 years ending in July 1971. It thought it was an outside pool but with wooden walls sheltering it from the rest of the school but I may have been mistaken. I then went on to Nonsuch in Cheam which also had a pool.

Hello. I'm working on a new six-part BBC audio series where a bit of social history of the early 1960s is looking at the Banstead Hall approved school. Nothing bad about the school/staff - just to be clear.

I'm hoping to speak to people who recall the early 60s there for my series. Please get in touch if this was your era and you'd be potentially open to a chat about your memories.

Thanks.
Patrick

Access to this pool was through the middle of a wall in the gymnasium.
The gym had narrow wooden benches along the walls.
I wasn't allowed to swim because I had ear problems.
Definitely Banstead Hall Approved School.
Former "inmate" circa 1961, long since reformed. :-)

I was there for 2 years as an approved school boy. There are many stories I could relate if you are interested, not all good ones.
