PC Charles Burgess at The Oval in Banstead

This is my father PC Charles Burgess on his 'Noddy Bike' a Velocette. Taken mid-1950s in The Oval, Banstead. When he found he enjoyed motorcycling he was too far into his service to apply to be a police-motorcyclist. He just loved that bike.

Hi Marie,
We used to call that Velocette "the grey ghost" in east London you couldn't hear them coming up on you when we were up to no good..JH

I don't know how many of these bikes there were at Banstead police station but the PC we used to see around on one (not because we were doing anything wrong!) was I think PC Levett, if I remember correctly.
