Here’s a Banstead Hospital Bowling Club enamel badge, probably from the 1950s, which I’ve set against a postcard image of the hospital dated 1905. In those days, it was known as Banstead Asylum.

That looks stunning Peter. The colour of the badge in contrast to the grey eerie background. I remember the Asylum well.

I used to work in the 1960s with a lady patient who was allowed out to work, returning back to her dormitory nightly. Quite a few patients worked on day release, but mainly they worked in the Hospital and grounds.
I also had an experience of an inmate absconding when I was a child.
