The Banstead War MemorialThe Banstead War Memorial in Banstead High Street.
This memorial has 118 men listed, and members of the Banstead History Research Group have researched many of their stories. They are writing a book to ensure that these men of Banstead are never forgotten but in the meantime, many of the stories can be found on the Group's website.
UPDATE : The book These Men of Banstead - Stories from the War Memorial was published in September 2010. See picture #186

Remembrance Sunday - Every year, following a service at All Saints Church, a parade formed from local organisations and groups eg Police, British Legion, Scouts and many others parade along the High Street to the Memorial where the Vicar conducts a short service to remember the men of Banstead. The service is always extremely well attended and everyone is welcome to come along.

I remember attending Remembrance services at this Memorial in the late 50's. At 11.00 every one would stand silently in remembrance, even the buses and cars would stop and the drivers stand alongside their vehicle for the 2 minutes silence
